NVQs (National Vocational Qualifications)
are work-related, competence-based qualifications which reflect the core
skills and knowledge required to do a job.
We deliver NVQs in a flexible and
practical way to ensure they meet the needs of your business without disrupting
the schedules of your employees. Our NVQ courses are structured so your
employees can be trained through online courses at a time, pace and place
to suit the business, as well as being assessed at work.
NVQs are qualifications which demonstrate
ability at work. The training is mainly on the job and NVQ assessment
recognises an individual's performance at work with a nationally recognised
qualification.
They are available to all ages, at
any career stage and no previous qualifications are necessary. As the
skills are assessed through work-based evidence, there are no 'end of
unit' tests or exams. Certification is based purely on evidence of the
skills.
An NVQ comprises several units which
can be tailored to reflect the job that an employee is carrying out and
the skills they need to perform. Each unit is made up of a number of national
occupational standards that cover all the main aspects of a job.
How will NVQs help
your business?
- Tailor learning and assessment around work plans so it
fits in with the working day
- A useful tool to re-skill your staff to relevant national
standards.
- Help your business meet the requirements for ISO and IIP
- By demonstrating a commitment to employee development -
many companies who support NVQs see a reduction in staff turnover and
sickness levels, in addition to a more positive and committed workforce.
- By boosting the confidence of employees with few or no
formal qualifications since
- NVQs are 'learning by doing' with no tests or exams.
Why train your staff with us?
We deliver NVQs in a flexible and practical way to ensure they meet the
needs of your business without disrupting the schedules of your employees.
Support
We offer diagnostics which assess the level of an employee's current skills
and encourage tailored learning of underpinning knowledge. This means
that your employees aren't spending any more time than is necessary on
training; they only learn what they need to fill their knowledge gaps.
And as it's about them, they will be more personally engaged - and it
saves you time too.
We can provide as much or as little
support as is needed. Our Centre staff will work with you & will provide
support online, at the workplace or over the phone. Your staff can also
learn at the centre if they prefer to.
We have a network of centres providing
training across the Island- you do not need to have the technology at
work to deliver the training.
Online flexible learning
Our online courses can be done in one of our centres, at work or at home,
or wherever there is access to the internet (Subject to minimum PC/Mac
specifications). This means that learning can be scheduled to fit around
work plans.
All our courses are broken down into
bite-sized chunks so learning can be done at a time and place that suits
your business. An employee can do as much or as little as they want during
each session and repeat parts of the courses as many times as they like.
It's not like traditional learning where you have to do a course for a
set amount of time on the same day every week.
This support and flexibility means
that achievement time of more traditional methods can be reduced with
less disruption to your business and a more evenly spread impact of staff
training.
How will we work
with you?
You will be given a contact at your local learndirect centre who will
advise you on the most appropriate training for each individual.
- Step 1. We assess skill/knowledge gaps
A learndirect advisor will use diagnostics to help each employee identify
what they can do already and what they need to learn. They will jointly
agree on activities to meet their needs and approve these with you.
- Step 2. We deliver flexible, practical training
Based on the skill gaps identified the advisor will suggest the most
appropriate learndirect course(s). We will then deliver a flexible programme
combining online learning to provide the necessary knowledge.
- Step 3. We assess competence
learndirect will provide an assessor who will meet with your employee
a number of times throughout the process to review and record progress
and to help them meet the NVQ evidence requirements. Generally, the
job the employee is doing will generate the evidence for assessment
which reduces disruption to normal work. Where an employee has not met
the required standard at that time, they are given the opportunity to
improve their ability and will be reassessed later.
All courses are affordable and centre
staff will be able to advise you how much a course will cost and/or whether
your employees are eligible for government funding.
What's your role?
Your role as an employer is to ensure your staff have the opportunity
at work to demonstrate competence in the workplace within deadlines. You
need to be committed to allow the time within the business for assessment
to take place, and, if applicable, allow sufficient flexibility for the
employee to undertake jobs beyond their current remit.
