The ITQ is fast becoming the de-facto
standard for IT users in the UK. It is recognised by employers as a critical
requirement for anyone using technology at work.
Our ITQ is fully integrated with the new e-skills
Passport - creating the leading-edge combination for delivering ITQ. It
provides for a simpler and more effective assessment of skills needs and
recording of progress for employers and candidates alike.
About ITQ
ITQ is the new NVQ for IT Users. As a simple solution to raising the IT
user skills of the workforce, it delivers the IT skills and learning that
employers most need. It is made up of a series of units that can be tailored
to the specific needs of employers in different fields, and to the individual
needs and roles of each employee. Integrated into the ITQ, the new e-skills
Passport is a lifelong record of achievement for IT user skills, which
enables employers and employees to assess current IT skills, identify
gaps, set learning targets and record improvements.
The BCS ITQ is:
- Completely customisable
Employers can add the specific software skills they need to the ITQ
framework (e.g. accounting or personnel management software) and include
these in the qualification.
- Flexible
There is no set course or programme. Employers and candidates can divide
up and pace the training to their practical needs. Online learning can
be incorporated into the working day as and when time permits.
- Relevant
The inclusion of Sector Specific units such as Health and Safety or
units in retail or manufacturing means that all training is totally
relevant.
- Based on recognised standards
The ITQ framework is continually being updated, so employers and centres
can rely on IT user skills keeping pace with developing technology.
- Protects training investment
Most existing IT user qualifications contribute towards ITQ, particularly
ECDL and ECDL Advanced, so investment is protected. With ITQ no learning
is 'lost'.
Be it for a business wanting to focus on improving
certain IT skills within their workforce or for individuals looking to
develop.
Whoever you are, BCS ITQ will have benefits for you.
Take off with BCS ITQ, CASy and the
e-skills Passport
The e-skills Passport is fully operational with the
BCS Candidate Administration System (CASy) online e-portfolio system that
makes it easier for candidates to submit evidence for assessment and verification.
Together, the e-skills Passport, CASy and the BCS ITQ, enable candidates
and centres to seamlessly bring together existing qualifications, current
learning and future skills development.
Benefits to the individual
- Enjoy a smooth journey with the Edutainment Centre's ITQ.
- Enjoy your job more! As you will be able to carry out your
day to day tasks without the complications you may have previously experienced
you will get greater job satisfaction.
- A real sense of personal achievement, in gaining the ITQ
you will have proven that you have the key IT skills needed in modern
life.
- The ITQ with e-skills Passport is designed to help you
and it is fully integrated with CASy, the online portfolio system us.
- You attain the ITQ qualification by learning skills that
are relevant to your job (for instance, if you do not need database
skills, you can still get a full qualification without taking the database
unit) or by using skills you already possess.
- You can use recognised IT User qualifications such as ECDL
and ECDL Advanced to fulfil some of the requirements of the optional
units.
- You can import units from existing NVQs. So if Health and
Safety is important in your job, alongside technology skills, then you
can import units from a Health and Safety NVQ to contribute towards
your ITQ.
- A nationally recognised qualification that will give you
credibility within and outside of your company or organisation.
- More confidence at work as you will be trained in the areas
that you need and to a standard that will allow you to work more effectively
- you can even start helping colleagues.
- Optional units may be taken in any combination and at different
levels, depending on the requirements, to create a BCS ITQ. Passport
is an excellent tool for facilitating this.
Employers
Improve IT skills in your business!
How will the ITQ help your business?
When it comes to developing IT skills within your
business, one size does not fit all. IT needs vary from business to business
and from job to job. Completing an ITQ will give your employees the chance
to develop the IT skills they need to do a better job making more use
of your IT systems and supporting your organisation's IT strategy.
The ITQ has been devised to allow for different skills to be learned and
assessed at different levels - from word processing and spreadsheet skills
to bespoke units which focus on specific organisational or industry software.
This improves individual employee skills and can help accelerate the uptake
of new technology within your business.
To save time and resources
where employees already have an IT user qualification, they can use it
to count towards the ITQ. This allows employees to build and develop their
skills to meet your needs without having to face the de-motivating prospect
of starting again or having to demonstrate skills they've already had
assessed.
The ITQ has two elements:
- Underpinning knowledge and skills - provided by flexible
online courses
- Practical work-based competence assessment - leading to
an NVQ at level 2.
Who is an ITQ suitable for?
Any employee who uses IT in their day-to-day work.
What will your staff learn?
The ITQ has one core unit - Make Selective Use
of IT - this deals with the effective use and selection of IT (hardware
and software) to achieve tasks. Additional units will vary. To ensure
your only train employees in the skills most relevant to them, we provide
an online diagnostic - the ITQ Planner - to assess the IT requirements
within their job role and identify their skills gaps. A tailored programme
selecting the most suitable units available will then be developed. This
means you can have several employees each taking a different tailored
route to their ITQ, and by only training employees in the skills they
actually need and can reduce the time spent on gaining the ITQ.
Edutainment courses provide the underpinning
knowledge for a range of units; from the essentials of operating IT equipment
- safely setting up hardware and ensuring software is compatible, standard
office software - covering word processing, databases, spreadsheets and
presentation tools, to the use of the internet and intranets and electronic
communication methods.
It is likely that an employee will
take between 3 and 5 additional units to achieve ITQ level 2, depending
on their current IT skills and their job requirements, but this could
be less if they already have an IT qualification. For a full explanation
of the units available and how they can be tailored to add up to an ITQ
contact your local centre to arrange a demonstration of the learndirect
ITQ Planner.
